Bedtime

So as I've been getting sentimental about these last few weeks with just Avery, I had an idea.  I thought it would be fun to video our bedtime routine so I'd have it to look back on.  So some of this is just for me... sorry if it bores you!  The video is pretty cute...

We're pretty stuck in our routine - and I love how Joe and I both are a part of it.  I know things will look different when Itty Bitty arrives, and I'm okay with that... I just want to treasure/remember this season as well.

If it's a bath night (about every other), we head upstairs at 7:30 and start Avery's bath.  She loves bath time.  She prefers that all her toys be outside the bathtub in their own tub so she has plenty of room to "swim". :)

Around 7:45 we wrap up bath time, she gets out and gets wrapped in her favorite towel ("frog head") and Joe hands her to me to hold for a minute.  We make silly faces in the mirror together and get her dried off.  Joe takes her to get her jammies on (and we still use a diaper at night), then we head back to the bathroom so Avery can brush her teeth.  She loves brushing her teeth and actually does a really good job!  As she finishes brushing, I go back to her room, make sure just her lamp is on, and I crouch down behind her bed (which is getting harder and harder).  When she runs in from the bathroom, I jump out and scare surprise her and she SQUEALS with laughter and falls into my arms.  She usually asks me to hide one more time, so I do.

Then, she crawls up into bed and we read a story from her Bible (I love it - the Jesus Storybook Bible).  Then we say prayers and sing a song together (she usually requests the Doxology or Jesus Paid it All).  Her prayers are adorable.  She thanks Jesus for Mommy and Daddy, the Baby, Bubba and Gpa, Malachi, Aunt Tassy, Uncle Aaron, Chris and Jacklyn, and others... then she starts thanking Jesus for anything she thinks of - her blanket, the stars, penguins, mac & cheese, fireflies, boats, etc... anything that comes to mind. :) She always gives an enthusiastic AMEN and goes right into the song.

After that, she gets her paci (yeah, we're going to wean after baby comes and we get through that transition - she only uses it at nap and bed time), we give hugs and kisses, and say goodnight.  We turn on her sound machine, turn off the lamp, and close the door.  She is a great sleeper - she stays in her bed all night and sleeps at least 12 hours.

Anywho, I tried to video a bit of our bedtime routine... Avery wasn't used to having a camera there, so it was hard to get her to focus. :) She was being silly during prayers.  It is pretty cute when she sings though...

I love our family bedtime routine.  I know it will change and that's okay - I'm just so blessed right now to be Avery's mommy and have a husband who loves to help and be involved.  So blessed...
