Perhaps we'll experience what everyone talks about as new parents (ALL the diapers, explosions, messes, etc. :)). We're actually excited about this possibility!!
The enema was last Monday (1.18.10). We checked in at the hospital and they gave Avery a little hospital bracelet. It was too big... so she kept taking it off. :)
She would show me her wrist like "look at my bracelet, Mommy!" - then she would take it off and hand it to me. Ha ha.
She started talking (loudly) in the waiting room. Apparently we needed to discuss the bracelet situation!
They took us back and Avery was super happy. She was talking and smiling like crazy. It was clear she didn't remember this room from her last enema (thankfully).
Joe and I got to wear these lovely blue smocks so we could stay in the room with Avery.
The enema went as well as it could go... Avery hated it, but she was a trooper! It was so hard to hear her scared scream and not be able to comfort her! It didn't last long, though it felt like an eternity. The whole procedure took about 25 minutes - then she was back in our arms.
They told me the enema would clean her out... and boy did it! She had FOURTEEN poopy diapers in a row! That's more than the last 3 1/2 months COMBINED!! I told Joe we should have taken her back to get weighed again - I bet she would have dropped a pound or so!
This is how Joe looks every time he takes out the bag from the diaper pail... most times I tease him that it's not that bad (since Avery hardly ever poops), but this time I guess it was justified... ha ha. :)
As I said earlier, we should have poopy diapers in our future - and we're SO excited! God is so good...
We finally heard back from the Pediatric Gastroenterologist. The enema and x-rays showed that the kink in her colon has worked itself out!! That means no surgery! Praise God!
Unfortunately, because of the kink, Avery has psychologically associated pooping with pain... so though the kink is no longer there, she's still not pooping... because she's choosing not to. She's holding it because she's afraid of the pain. So our next step is a prescription. It doesn't make her go, but it makes everything super soft so that it's really easy for her to go on her own. She has to take 10mL of this liquid (that she does NOT like) every day - it's quite a bit! So far, she has pooped more often on her own... so we're celebrating! :) I don't know how long we'll use the prescription, but I'm very thankful for it.
It's a new experience... Avery pooping without screaming and us changing poopy diapers... I'm realizing we've probably saved a LOT of money on diapers over the past 8 months since we really only had to change her when she was wet!
I bet you didn't really want to read this much about poop... but I did promise an update. :) We check back in with the Pediatric Gastroenterologist on February 15th.
Thanks again for praying! Well, I gotta go... Avery needs her diaper changed and who knows... maybe it's POOPY!! :)

So glad it was good news!!! God is indeed good. We had similar issues w/ our oldest (not as severe), so I know how hard it is to see your precious baby in pain and have no way to stop it :( Praying for continued success with poopy diapers! :)
So glad that the kink is gone! I'm sure it has been a long 8 months dealing with that. Praise the Lord no surgery!
Yay! That's awesome news!
nice to hear good news. on that topic. the best part of going back to work is that Josie does most of her pooping during the day. i maybe change 1 or 2 a MONTH!!!!
oh good I am so glad! I hope she gets more comfortable w/ the pooping! :) Thanks for the update!
