8 months

Avery turned 8 months old today!

Pics to come...

Avery normally wakes up at 6:30, but as a little birthday gift to me, she slept in until 7:40 this morning!

Some of my favorite things that Avery is doing right now:

~ sitting up on her own (started right after turning 7 months old :))

~ babbling NON-STOP (she can say just about every consonant EXCEPT "M"... so no "Mama" yet!)

~ she responds excitedly (squeals and squirms) when Joe and I sign to her ("change", "eat", "milk", "drink"), though she hasn't signed back yet :)

~ has no interest in crawling... still wants to stand ALL the time. She pulls herself up on furniture, us, etc. When we hold her hands, she'll put one foot in front of the other and walk all over the place - talking the whole time. :)

~ she sucks her thumb or first finger in-between EVERY bite of food. Make dinner time a bit of a process, but it's so cute - we don't mind. :)

~ she's entered into the "separation anxiety" phase. Only mom will do. I love that I'm what she wants and that I can make her happy. At the same time, I want her to be happy with other people! During the holidays, she was fine with other people/family members... as long as I hid around the corner or in another room! Out of sight, out of mind I guess. :) I made sure Joe took pictures of her with other people - ha ha.

~ tummy issues... still the same. I'm assuming the kink in her colon is still there. She only poops once/week (and it's very painful). Since starting solids at 6 months of age, we've found that the only foods she can process on her own are apples and bananas. I've made a lot of banana-apple sauce in the last couple months! :) The last few weeks we've had to resort to suppositories... sigh.

Tomorrow is her appointment with the pediatric gastroenterologist. I think it is just a preliminary meeting; I doubt they'll do anything tomorrow. I am hoping that they give us some answers or some options. It's hard to see our little girl in pain.

These past 8 months have been a dream come true. I love watching Avery grow and change. I love watching her personality form. I love that she's a happy baby even in the midst of her pain and discomfort. I love being a team with Joe - he's so great with her. Her face lights up when she sees him.

As I celebrate each milestone with Avery, I can't help but think of Cora and Calla. I'm so thankful for my daughter... and I'm also thankful that she reminds me to pray for my friends and their daughters. It causes me to treasure each moment with Avery even more.

Happy 8 months, Avery Nell! I love you SO much!

Hello,
I came by your blog by accident, Avery is a beatiful girl :) I just wanted to let you know that my daughter is going through sounds like the same tummy problems. She is now 18 months old, it all started at when she was about 9 months old. Doctors keep saying she is just constipated, but I know in my heart it's not just that. We are finally going to see a pediatric gastroenterologist next week. I am just wondering how was Avery diagnosed? What kind of test were done? I understand if you don't want to respond to this. Sometimes I feel so helpless. I hope Avery and my Olivia will get better soon and we'll get some answers from the specialists.

hey, wow, she's doing so good. You can see she's such a happy baby by the pic's you post (FB, here on your blog).
Breeson did/does the same thing - only wants to stand! He is making more progress in crawling though, especially when he sees something he wants but it's out of reach. I'm sure Avery will get there!!
Hope the appointment goes well. That would be tough knowing she's in pain. sorry you're still dealing with that. :(

Hi "Family Happens"!
I'm so sorry your daughter has tummy problems! It is so frustrating to get all the "constipation" advice from everyone, I know. I just posted about our appt w/the Ped. Gastroenterologist... I hope it's not discouraging to you! I think I had high hopes that they'd try something different right away... but we have to wait another month... are you on facebook or do you have an e-mail address I could have? It might be easier to write back and forth that way. :) I'm on facebook or you can e-mail me at gingerskillen@gmail.com - I would love to hear how you appt goes and if they give you anything new to try!! I feel helpless, too. I'm sorry. Olivia is a beautiful name - I will pray for her along with Avery!
